Two people were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday, while 137 new positive samples were recorded in nine states across Nigeria.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new figure in its update for October 9, adding that the record includes a backlog of one death confirmed in Kano.
With the new figure, 22 deaths have been confirmed within the past seven days, while Nigeria’s fatality toll stands at 2,745.
According to the breakdown of deaths for each state, Lagos has the highest figure with 664 fatalities, followed by Edo with 223, and and the federal capital territory (FCT) with 202; Kogi has the lowest number with two deaths recorded.

For new COVID-19 cases, Lagos topped the list on Saturday with 46 fresh infections, followed by the FCT with 35, and Kaduna with 20.
Other states with positive samples on Saturday are as follows: Benue (13), Oyo (9), Kano (6), Rivers (6), Ekiti (1) and Nasarawa (1).
A total of 80 patients were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infection, increasing the recovery count to 195,132.

Out of a total of 207,616 positive infections confirmed across the country, 9,741 are still active cases.
