Two police officers have been killed in an attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at Izombe in Oguta LGA of Imo state.
In a statement, Michael Abattam, spokesman of the command in the state, quoted Hussaini Rabiu, Imo commissioner of police, as saying the gunmen opened fire when they saw the police.
Rabiu said they were able to overpower the bandits because the police had “superior fire power”.
Having been subdued, the commissioner said, the gunmen fled into the bush, adding that three of them were killed.

”A pump action gun with two rounds of live cartridges and one locally made double-barrelled pistol with two expended cartridges were recovered from them,” he said.
Rabiu said the police are in pursuit of the bandits, and that anyone with credible information that will lead to their arrest should report to the nearest police station.
He said hospitals should report anyone who comes to treat gunshot injuries.
