The police command in Jigawa says two of its officers were killed during a gun duel with gunmen in Taura LGA.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday when the gunmen invaded Kwalam town.
Lawan Shiisu, Jigawa police spokesperson, in a statement on Monday, said police officers mobilised to the town after receiving a distress call about the gunmen.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the gunmen engaged the police in an exchange of gunfire, which led to the death of Anas Usaini, an assistant superintendent of police and Sunusi Alhassan.

The gunmen also abducted Ma’aru Abubakar, a resident of the town.
Shiisu said the command is working hard to secure the release of Abubakar and arrest the fleeing suspects
“On 23/01/2022, at about 0130hrs, a distress call was received that unknown gunmen invaded Kwalam town in Taura LGA,” the police spokesperson said.

“Upon receipt of the report, we mobilised a team of policemen and headed to the scene. On arrival, we engaged them in a gun duel and they fled.
“ASP Anas Usaini and Sunusi Alhassan were shot dead close to an improvised patrol vehicle which was set ablaze by the gunmen.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the hoodlums invaded the residence of Alhaji Ma’aru Abubakar ,60, of Kwalam town and abducted him.”
