The attack in Asso was said to have occurred around 10am. The victims were on their way home after taking a sick family member to a hospital in Kafanchan.

The suspects reportedly struck in Sarari around 2pm. After invading the village, they went from house to house shooting people.

A resident of the area who confirmed the incident said: “They were well armed and they went from house to house shooting at people. “Everybody was running for safety. Our village head and five other people were killed.

“Those wounded were taken to a Primary Health Centre in a neigbouring town.”

Nicholas Garba, the house of representatives member representing Jema/Sanga federal constituency, who confirmed the attack in Asso said it was the third in the community.

“This will be the third time that an attack will be carried out from the uncompleted Asso bridge,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the administration of Nasir el-Rufai, the governor, to show more than “passive interest” in the insecurity situation.

“I am also appealing to the military task force based in Kafanchan to work harder to fish out these agents of darkness,” he said.

“Until the state is able to fish out, expose and punish the perpetrators of these heinous crimes, for so long will these criminals continue on their path of perfidy. To our communities, one cannot overemphasise the necessity for eternal vigilance.”
