Two US army helicopters crash during training — several feared dead

Multiple people are believed to have been killed in a crash involving two United States army helicopters.

The Fort Campbell military base in Kentucky said crew members were flying two HH60 Blackhawk helicopters during a routine training mission before the crash.

The collision was said to have happened around 10pm US time on Wednesday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the command said it is “currently focused on caring for the service members and their families”.

Andy Beshear, Kentucky’s governor, said fatalities were expected and that the state’s police and emergency management service were responding to the situation.

“We’ve got some tough news out of Fort Campbell, with early reports of a helicopter crash and fatalities are expected. @kystatepolice, @KentuckyEM and local officials are responding,” Beshear tweeted.
