The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the launch of a debit card in partnership with Mastercard to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
In a statement on Wednesday, the bank said the collaboration aims to honour UBA’s long-standing customer relationships and enhance the banking experience with various offers and discounts across multiple platforms.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Oliver Alawuba, the group managing director (GMD), said the debit card includes certain benefits aimed at rewarding customers, such as a limited 25 percent discount on purchases on Jumia and a $75 cash-back on transactions through AliExpress.
“This initiative symbolises the shared vision between UBA and Mastercard towards empowering Africans by enhancing customer experience through secure and convenient transactions,” he said.

“This new card represents the deepening of our relationship and our shared mission to empower millions of Nigerians and Africans, by providing them with access to secure transactions and new opportunities across the continent.”
Alawuba said the group is proud of its collaboration and is confident about Mastercard’s growth in Africa in the coming years.
On his part, Mark Elliott, division president for Africa at Mastercard, expressed appreciation for the collaboration, noting that the card signifies Mastercard’s support for Africa’s digital economy.

“We are excited to collaborate with UBA to celebrate this milestone and bring more value to customers across Africa,” Elliott said.
“This commemorative card is more than just a product; it reflects our commitment to advancing financial inclusion and supporting Africans in accessing secure, convenient and impactful financial solutions.”
Elliot said together with UBA, Mastercard is focused on delivering innovation to meet the evolving needs of the region, empowering individuals, and promoting digital growth across the continent.
On October 26, UBA rewarded 110 customers with N42.8 million in its October Legacy Promo Draw to mark its 75th anniversary.
