Uba Sani allocates land for ASUU-KASU housing project

Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna state.

The Kaduna State University (KASU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says the state has approved land for its Academia Mass Housing Estate Project.

The ASUU branch sent a commendation letter addressed to Uba Sani, the state governor, and dated January 23.

The Academia Mass Housing Estate Project is an initiative led by the KASU branch of ASUU to provide affordable housing for academic staff and civil servants.

The project is to operate on a rent-to-own and mortgage financing scheme, making homeownership more accessible to academics.

It is a collaborative effort between the KASU-ASUU Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, the Kaduna state government, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, and the federal ministry of housing.

In its letter, ASUU-KASU described the project as a significant step towards improving staff welfare and expanding homeownership opportunities for civil servants.

The letter, signed by Gimba Kyari, president of the KASU-ASUU Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, praised the governor’s “commitment to the development of Kaduna state.”

It disclosed that Ibraheem Musa, the chief press secretary to the governor, stated that each housing unit in the project is expected to cost approximately N42 million, including infrastructure.

KASU-ASUU said it has introduced a 15 per cent discount on the total cost (termed the ‘Senator Uba Sani Discount’) to reflect the value of the allocated land.

The project, the ASUU branch added, is designed to be sustainable and aims to set a benchmark for mass housing schemes by offering a conducive living environment at an affordable cost.
