Uba Sani approves N72k minimum wage, free transport scheme for Kaduna workers

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state, has approved N72,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

In a statement on Thursday, Ibraheem Musa, chief press secretary to the governor, said the new minimum wage takes effect from November 2024.

Musa added that the governor is set to launch a free transportation scheme for workers, with 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses released for this purpose.

He said a joint committee consisting of representatives of organised labour in the state and the government will be set up to oversee the scheme.

The buses will convey civil servants to and from work. This is aimed at alleviating the suffering of workers and enhancing their productivity,” the statement reads.

“A Joint Management Committee consisting of representatives of organized labour (NLC and TUC) and the State Government will be set up to manage the Free Transportation Scheme for civil servants.

“Kaduna State Government will continue to fashion and implement policies and measures to bring succour to the people.

“We are committed to transforming the lives of the less privileged. With the sustained support of our citizens, we shall make Kaduna State a Model for Social Welfare Interventions.’’
