Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, lost to Uba Sani in a primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state.
Uba Sani is the preferred candidate of Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state.
In the results announced on Saturday night, Uba Sani polled 2088, Usman Ibrahim had 129, Sani Saleh 55, Shamsudden Giwa 6 and Shehu Sani, 15.
The national working committee (NWC) of the APC had earlier given an automatic ticket to Shehu Sani but el-Rufai protested against this.

He said a “disloyal” individual like the serving senator did not deserve getting the ticket of the ruling party.
Shehu Sani had alleged that el-Rufai was organising a “kangaroo” primary election in the senatorial district.
He warned his agents and supporters to stay off the venue of the exercise.

“This is to totally disassociate myself with the reported Kangaroo APC primary election organised by Governor Elrufai this night,” the statement read.
“I cannot be part of a fraud scripted by Elrufai aimed at imposing his aide,UBA SANI. The Governor’s opposition to direct primaries is all about giving him the opportunity to impose his stooges and lackeys.”
