Uba Sani, el-Rufai’s candidate, finally cleared for APC senatorial primary

Uba Sani, preferred candidate of Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, has been cleared for the the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Kaduna central senatorial district.

Sani’s name was included on a list signed by Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the ruling party.

The list had names of other aspirants from the north-west geo-political zone.

Among the names are Suleiman Kwari, Barnabas Bala, Shamsudeen Giwa, Shehu Sani, Usman Ibrahim Abba Ibrahim, Aliyu Lawal,Muhammed Saleh and Zagi Caleb.

The national working committee (NWC) of the APC had earlier disqualified el-Rufai’s candidate.

Shehu Sani, senator currently representing the district, had been given an automatic ticket. The senator and el-Rufai are not on the same page.

On Wednesday, el-Rufai and Rotimi Akeredolu, his Ondo state counterpart, met with met with President Muhammadu at the presidential villa in Abuja to protest the disqualification of their preferred candidates.

The APC senate screening committee cleared Ajayi Borrofice, senator representing Ondo north, against the wish of the state governor, who had wanted to dislodge him through a primary.

The ruling party is currently embroiled in a crisis over the disqualification of some candidates from the 2019 elections.

On Thursday, Rochas Okorocha, chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, led eight of his colleagues to Buhari over the controversy surrounding primary elections in their states.
