Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, says the promises made to victims of Tudun Biri airstrike are being gradually fulfilled.

According to Muhammad Shehu, chief press secretary to the governor, Sani spoke on Monday in his New Year message to the people of Kaduna.

On December 2, many residents of Tudun Biri in Igabi LGA of Kaduna were killed in an “accidental airstrike” said to be targeted at terrorists.

The villagers were reportedly commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad when the jet dropped the bomb that led to the deaths of many people.

According to multiple reports, the death toll from the incident was over 120 while scores were left badly injured.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima had said anyone found culpable of the bombing would be punished, adding that all the injured victims would be taken care of.

The 109 senators of the 10th national assembly also promised to donate their salaries for December, amounting to N109 million, to the victims of the airstrike.

Speaking on the incident, Sani commended the unity exhibited by the people of Kaduna in bringing succour to the survivors and families of the deceased.

“The promises made by the federal government, national assembly, Nigeria Governors Forum, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians are being gradually fulfilled,” the governor said.

“We shall effectively monitor the execution of the intervention programmes for the Tudun Biri community.”

The governor encouraged all Kaduna residents to remain resilient and resolute as they enter the New Near.

He said the state government is prioritising the well-being of the people with “targeted policies and programmes”.

“My fellow compatriots, I congratulate us for making it to 2024. The past year 2023 was a particularly challenging one,” Sani said.

“Though tasked almost to the limits on all fronts, we persevered and marched on with determination and courage. We are indeed a resilient people with an abiding faith in the almighty God.

“In the last six months, my administration has left no one in doubt as to our determination to carry everyone along; better the lots of our dear citizens and take Kaduna state to a higher level.

“We are building a state where no one will feel oppressed, marginalized or neglected. We are taking development closer to the people through the Rural Transformation and Nurturing of Citizens Engagement initiatives.”
