Uba Sani relaxes 24-hour curfew in Kaduna, Zaria

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed in the state to checkmate the breakdown of law and order during the #EndBadGovernance protest.

On Monday, the Kaduna state government announced a 24-hour curfew following reported cases of looting during the protest.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Samuel Aruwan, the overseeing commissioner of the ministry of internal security and home affairs in Kaduna, said the curfew is not from 8am to 6pm daily, effective from August 8.

Aruwan said the Kaduna state security council relaxed the curfew after a “thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna, Zaria and environs”.

“The Kaduna state security council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, after a thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and environs,” the statement reads.

“By this review, the curfew will now be in effect from 6pm to 8am daily. This implies that citizens may move freely and carry out their legitimate activities between 8am and 6pm and will revert to the curfew from 6pm to 8am.”

“The Kaduna state security Council reiterates its total commitment to the peace and security of the state and will continue to take all steps deemed necessary for their preservation.”

The statement added that security forces will strictly enforce curfew and confront any law-breaking actions from August 8.
