Uche: It’s an honour to play for Nigeria

Ikechukwu  Uche has denied the allegations made by Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi that he is waiting to be begged before honouring any national call-up.

Keshi during a media chat in Calabar Wednesday said Uche is expecting apologies from him for dropping him from the World Cup squad before returning to the national team.

However, Uche via his twitter handle @ikeuche9, refuted Keshi’s claims and declared that he is always open to playing for Nigeria once considered by the team’s selectors.

“It’s an honour to play for Nigeria. I don’t expect to be begged or given special treatment. I’m available when/if considered for selection,” the Villarreal forward wrote.

Uche last played for the Super Eagles on February 10, 2013 during the final of the AFCON against Burkina Faso.

For his club, though, it’s a different ball game.

Uche scored his side’s first La Liga goal this season in the 2-0 away win over Levante but missed out in the 1-0 home loss to Barcelona last Sunday.

Villarreal are ninth on the log with three points after two games. They face Granada at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes in their next league game on September 14, 2014.
