Liverpool scored two late goals to claim a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 first leg encounter at the San Siro Stadium on Wednesday night.

Roberto Firmino broke the deadlock before Mohamed Salah sealed the win to consign Inter Milan to defeat at home.

In the thrilling encounter, both teams traded early chances but Inter came closest, hitting the crossbar through Hakan Calhanoglu’s fierce strike from inside the penalty area.

The game continued to offer plenty attacking forays that were not converted into clear-cut opportunities as both sides went into halftime level.

Second half continued where the first left off with both sides seeking a final ball.

Inter thought they had scored through Edin Dzeko but the former Manchester City player was well offside before slotting into the net.

Jurgen Klopp’s second half substitutions saw the entry of Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Luiz Diaz and Jordan Henderson into the match, before Firmino produced the breakthrough goal.

The Brazilian forward reacted quickest to Andy Robertson’s corner kick delivery to nod into the far corner on 75 minutes.

Salah’s strike sealed the win seven minutes from time.

The Egyptian forward rifled the ball into the net from Virgil van Dijk’s knockdown following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick.

In Austria, Nigerian-born Chukwubuike Adamu scored for RB Salzburg in their heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich, with the German champions needing a 90th-minute equalizer to deny their hosts victory.
