UCL: Man United upset Juventus as City, Real Madrid win big

Manchester United inflicted the first defeat of the season on Juventus with a 2-1 win at the Allianz stadium in Turin, thanks to two late goals.

In a game reminiscent of a United team built by Sir Alex Ferguson which was notorious for late wins, Jose Mourinho and his boys rolled back the years to hand United their second win in Juve’s stadium since 1999 despite a wonder goal from Cristiano Ronaldo to put the Bianconeri ahead.

A former United fans’ favourite and five-time Balon d’Or winner, Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 65th with a wonderful volley. The 33-year-old watched a long ball from Leonardo Bonucci drop off his shoulder before hitting it first time, sailing beyond a surprised De Gea for the lead.

Dybala also struck the post but Man United, however, had other ideas. Mourinho’s boys, with their new found resilience, equalised in the 86th minute through Juan Mata’s well struck free kick which cleared the wall and nestled in the corner.

Another free kick gave United the winner three minutes later, Ashley Young’s delivery bundled into the net by Juve’s Alex Sandro under pressure to hand the Old Trafford giants all three points. They remain in second place with seven points, two points behind Juve and two ahead of Valencia who defeated Young Boys 3-1 in the early kick off.

Defending UCL Champions, Real Madrid’s resurgence continued with a 5-0 spanking of Viktoria Plzeň in Czech Republic thanks to a Karim Benzema brace and goals from Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Manchester City went one further, crushing Shakhtar Donetsk 6-0 to edge closer to Round of 16 qualification. A hat-trick from Gabriel Jesus and goals by David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Rhiyad Mahrez earned City their biggest ever UCL win.

Bayern Munich also managed a 2-0 win over AEK Athens of Greece to ease some pressure off coach Niko Kovac. The Germans scored one in each half through striker, Robert Lewandowski to secure victory and move up to 10 points in the group, two ahead of Ajax.
