UCL: Mikel, Simon benched, Ideye, Igiebor in action

Super Eagles stars Nosa Igiebor and Brown Ideye were in action last night for 90 minutes, while compatriots Mikel Obi and Moses Simon were left on the bench in the entire duration of matches on match day 5 of the UEFA Champions League.

Mikel’s Chelsea FC defeated Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv four goals to nil to go top of group G, with Igiebor having too much to handle in midfield against the 2012 champions.

KAA Gent star, Moses, was also an unused sub for his side as they defeated Lyon two nil on the night.

Elsewhere, Brown Ideye was also in action for Greek club, Olympiakos FC, as they lost 3-0 to Bayern Munchen in group F.

Although the Nigerian striker failed to hit the target for his club, he is hopeful of helping his team to progress to the next round in their last game against Arsenal.

Defeat for Igiebor and his team now means the campaign is over but on the other end, Mikel’s Chelsea are guaranteed of progression to the round of 16 in the competition with one more game left to seal top spot.

Moses’ side, Gent, will fancy a win at home against high-flying Zenith St. Petersburg to seal their qualification to the next round.

Ideye has five appearances so far this term, with 405 minutes of play, and a goal against Dynamo Zagreb on match day three to his credit.

Igiebor has managed three appearances this season with 188 minutes played and Mikel has been capped just once in this year’s campaign, playing for just 62 minutes, while Moses has had two appearances with 75 minutes played.

The duo of Mikel and Moses will now hope for chances to feature in their last group games on match day 6, which comes up on December 9, 2015.
