UCL: Onyedika sees red against Milan as Vinicius scores hattrick in Real Madrid win

Raphael Onyedika, the Super Eagles player, was shown a straight red card in Club Brugge’s 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) group-stage encounter on Tuesday night.

Onyedika’s dismissal occurred in the 40th minute and required the intervention of the video assistant referee (VAR) system. The 23-year-old went into a tackle with his foot high, an act spotted by VAR and the referee wielded the big stick following a pitch-side review.

Club Brugge were behind at the time of his dismissal through Christian Pulisic’s goal directly from a corner kick. Although the Belgians briefly equalized, Samuel Chukwueze, another Nigerian international, came on as a substitute to provide the assist for the clincher scored by Tijani Reijnders who bagged a brace.

Elsewhere, Vinicius Jr. produced a hattrick for Real Madrid to help the UCL champions defeat Borussia Dortmund 5-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu despite going behind 2-0 at the interval.

Donyell Malen and Jamie Gittens’ goals put the German visitors two up at the interval. Antonio Rudiger got a header while Vinicius Jr. tapped in the equalizer before the team ran riot in the latter stages. Lucas Vazquez put them ahead from a tight angle before Vinicius stole the show with two solo goals to the delight of his coach and fans.

The Brazilian took the ball from deep into Real’s half and made his way to Dortmund’s goal where he finished low into the far corner before turning a defender inside-out and lashing into the roof of the net to complete his hat-trick.

Arsenal also defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0, Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 1-1 draw in France, while Juventus conceded a 92nd-minute goal to lose 1-0 at home.
