Liverpool, the English Premier League (EPL) champions, maintained their 100% start in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with a convincing 5-0 win over Atalanta, an Italian club.
The Reds thrashed the Serie A side on Tuesday night, thanks to a maiden hattrick from Diogo Jota, their £45 million summer signing, and goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Jota started the goal-fest on 16 minutes when he pushed the ball into the penalty area despite being under pressure and conjured a delicate chip over the Atalanta goalkeeper.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker doubled the lead on 33 minutes with a half volley that caught the keeper unaware before half time.

Liverpool scored twice in four minutes of the restart. Salah ran the length of Atalanta’s half before slotting home on 47 minutes to become Liverpool’s joint record scorer in Europe with 21 goals, while Mane controlled the Egyptian striker’s pass before dinking over the goalkeeper for 4-0 on 49 minutes.
Jota would complete his hattrick on 54 minutes when put through on goal by Mane. The Portuguese international dispatched a left-footed strike for his 10th strike in European football.
In other matches of the night, Real Madrid recorded their first UCL win in five matches against Inter Milan.
