Cristiano Ronaldo scored one in each half to rescue a point for Manchester United in the 2-2 draw with Atalanta during their UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage encounter at the Gewiss stadium in Italy on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old goal poacher, who has continued to be United’s go-to man since his summer return to the Red Devils, was at his characteristic best in front of goal, canceling out strikes from Atalanta’s Josip Illicic and Duvan Zapata.
Ronaldo’s goals were scored in added time of both halves.
Man United started brightly but it was Atalanta that took the early lead through Illicic who capitalised on a Scott McTominay and Eric Bailly error to fire past David de Gea in the 12th minute.

Ronaldo drew Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side level before the halftime interval, latching onto Bruno Fernandes’ back-heeled pass before finishing with aplomb to restore parity in added time.
The entertaining Italians regained the lead, thanks to another error in United’s defence. Maguire was the culprit this time as Zapata slotted home on 56 minutes with the goal awarded after a lengthy VAR review.
Atalanta had a plethora of chances to seal the win but Ronaldo had other ideas in the second half added time, smashing into the bottom corner to rescue a point for the visitors.

Man United remain top of group F on better head-to-head advantage over Villarreal with both sides on seven points from four matches.
