Emmanuel Uduaghan, the governor of Delta state and Chime Sullivan, the governor of Enugu state, have withdrawn their interest in contesting for seats in the senate.
Both governors, who are of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced their decision a few hours to the senatorial primary election scheduled for Sunday.
While Uduaghan, who was vying for the Delta south senatorial district, said he stepped down in the interest of his party, Chime who has been in a fierce battle with the state chapter of the party, reportedly dropped his ambition to allow peace reign.
Chime had rejected the result of the congress conducted in the case and the matter had been taken to court. He was bidding to unseat Ike Ikweremadu, the deputy senate president, who has been in the upper legislative chamber since 2003.

The ambition of governors to go into the senate had created a conflict in PDP, as senators accused the president of supporting the governors against them and the governors also complained over the senators bid.
About nine governors of the party are seeking senatorial ambition. Only on Thursday did Gabriel Suswam heave a sigh of relief, as Barnabas Gemade accepted not to return to the senate.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, Delta state capital on Friday, Uduaghan said his ambition was “not a do or die affair”.
