The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has confirmed that the Champions League knockout matches will be played in a 12-day mini-tournament in Lisbon in August.

The European football governing body also said that it will be a straight knockout tournament that will be played between August 12 and 23, with no second-legs in the quarter-finals or semi-finals.

The decision was reached after a UEFA executive committee video conference on Wednesday, in which discussions were held regarding the regulations, format, calendar and venues for a variety of competitions.

In March, the European football body called off the Champions League and Europa League competitions until further notice amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The four remaining last-16 second-leg matches, including Manchester City vs Real Madrid, will now be played on August 7 and 8.

Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA’s president, said he is delighted that the Champions League will resume all its competitions.

“I am delighted that we are able to resume almost all of our competitions. I am confident that we will not have to endure the fans’ absence for long and that they will be allowed into stadiums sooner rather than later,” he said.
