The University of Ibadan (UI) distance learning centre says it will admit students who scored less than 200 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Babatunde Omobowale, director of the centre, said it will also admit candidates who did not sit for the exam at all.

Omobowale addressed journalists ahead of the commencement of the September 2024 session at the centre.

He said candidates who did not sit for the UTME can apply to the centre for admission to study any of the courses accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Omobowale said newly admitted and returning students are expected to start receiving lectures in the first week of September.

The director said application forms are still available for interested learners who meet the eligibility criteria.

He said the eligibility criteria include five credits in relevant WAEC or NECO subjects in one sitting or six credits in two sitting.

Sources within the university management say an entrance exam is also typically conducted apart of requiring an O’level result.

“Those who scored below 200 in JAMB UTME or did not sit for the UTME can take advantage of this opportunity and enrol in any of the university undergraduate programmes,” Omobowale said.

“The university also welcomes learners seeking inter-university transfers into any of its programmes.

“Such students only need to forward their letter of interest and current transcripts in NUC-accredited programmes from their current university whether private or public university.

“The programme offers a flexible, open, online, and seamless blended learning experience.”

Among the programmes offered at the UI open distance eLearning centre are Computer Science, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Communications & Language Arts, Social Work, and Nursing Science.
