The United Kingdom has recorded zero deaths from coronavirus on its daily toll for Tuesday.

This is the first time since July 30, 2020, that the UK will record zero deaths within 24 hours.

According to Public Health England (PHE), the latest figure for deaths is the record “within 28 days of a positive test”.

The country, however, reported 3,165 new infections for Tuesday.

The latest data witnessed a slight decrease compared to the 3,383 cases and one death reported on Monday.

According to BBC, reports of daily fatalities are often lower at weekends and at the start of the week, owing to less counting while statisticians are off.

There has been concern in the UK over recent rise in cases linked to the spread of the COVID variant first identified in India.

In February, Boris Johnson, UK prime minister, laid a roadmap for the reopening of the country — with all restrictions to end on June 21.

But last week, Johnson warned that the country may delay the planned reopening owing to the rise in infections.

“I don’t see anything currently in the data to suggest that we have to deviate from the roadmap, but we may need to wait,” he said.

According to data from Public Health England, as of June 1, UK has confirmed 4,490,438 cases of COVID-19, while 152,068 people have died from the virus.
