Umar Faruq, Emir of Katagum, appointed as LAUTECH chancellor

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo and visitor to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has appointed Umar Faruq Umar II, Emir of Katagum in Bauchi state, as the chancellor of the university.

Taiwo Adisa, the governor’s chief press secretary, said the decision was contained in a letter of appointment signed by Makinde, which conveyed Faruq’s appointment as the fifth chancellor of LAUTECH.

“I wish to inform Your Royal Highness of your appointment as the Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso,” the letter reads.

“While heartily congratulating Your Royal Highness on this well-deserved appointment, which is a call to serve humanity, the Oyo State Government expects that the university will benefit from your rich knowledge and exposure towards the realisation of the university’s unique vision.”

According to his profile provided by the Oyo state government, the Emir of Katagum, who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the Bayero University, Kano, has served in various capacities in the civil service.

He is said to have risen to the position of federal permanent secretary and served at different times as permanent secretary, special duties at the presidency, ministry of youth development, water resources, and solid minerals development, and retired after 34 years of service.

He was named emir in December 2017, following the transition of Muhammad Kabir Umar, his father.
