Calvin Bassey suffers racist abuse online following Fulham's victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have condemned the online abuse directed at Calvin Bassey, Fulham defender and Super Eagles international, in the wake of the club’s FA Cup win over Manchester United.
Bassey scored the opening goal in his club’s 1-1 draw against Man United in the fifth round of the FA Cup, with Fulham eventually going through to the quarter finals following a 4-3 win after a penalty shootout.
The defender, however, suffered racist and homophobic comments from online fans in the wake of the victory that piled more misery on a poor Man United side.
In a statement on X, NFF said the racial and homophobic abuse were unacceptable actions. The football governing body also says it stands with the 25-year-old to fight racism in the sport and society.

“We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field.
“Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.”

Earlier Fulham also condemned the “abhorrent” abuse suffered online against the 25-year-old defender.
Bassey is the latest in the list of English Premier League (EPL) players that have suffered online abuse in recent times, joining the trio of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Joe Willock, and Kyle Walker.
