The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has partnered with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) to enhance the commercialisation of raw materials and industrial inputs for manufacturing.

In a statement on Friday, the university’s public relations unit said the collaboration aims to facilitate research and development in the raw materials value chain for Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

To support this initiative, UNIBEN plans to establish a commercialisation desk to streamline the process.

The university said the partnership with RMRDC would also drive the commercialisation of research findings from Nigerian universities and strengthen academia-industry relations.

Other objectives include securing grants from development partners and international organisations, as well as promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

Founded in 1987, the RMRDC operates under the federal ministry of science and technology.

Its mandate includes promoting the development and efficient utilisation of Nigeria’s raw materials to reduce dependence on imports, enhance industrial growth, and support local manufacturing.
