The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has pledged cooperation and support to the incoming administration of Peter Mbah, governor-elect of Enugu.
UNICEF made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the governor-elect.
Hamidu Ponfon, chief of social policy, UNICEF country office Abuja, and Juliet Chiluwe, chief of field office, UNICEF Enugu, expressed their pleasure at the content of Mbah’s manifesto.
The officials said Mbah’s social protection framework which touches on poverty eradication and financial management, aligns with the objectives of UNICEF.

The international organisation promised to continue supporting Enugu by increasing its developmental activities in the state during Mbah’s administration.
The agency said it would give comprehensive support in the areas of development planning, strengthening of the state’s management system, and public financial system.
Furthermore, the support will also touch on social policies that will boost the health sector for improved maternal and neonatal well-being.

In response, the governor-elect thanked the UNICEF team for the enormous goodwill towards him, he promised a stronger partnership between the agency and the state government during his administration.
He reiterated his commitment to disrupting the existing revenue model so as to raise more funds to address the challenges facing the state.
He added that his administration would strengthen primary healthcare, security and deployment of public accountability through an e-governance structure to enable transparency.
