UNILAG cancels N25,000 fine after student protest

Following protests staged by students of the University of Lagos, authorities of the institution have rescinded the decision to impose a N25,000 payment for late registration.

One of the protesting students who spoke to TheCable said the dean of students affairs, Prof. O.O Amunda, addressed the students and directed that those who had made initial payment to present their tellers for refund.

The students had earlier defied the early-morning downpour, by turning out en masse to shut the school gate against management and lecturers of the Institution, and also threaten to disrupt the upcoming convocation, scheduled for next week, if the decision was not reversed.

Activities around the university were grounded, as the protesting students barricaded the road, thereby restricting vehicular movement.

“We are not happy,” the student said.

“How can we pay N25,000 extra when we have not even paid our school fees? They think it is easy?”
