Charles Esimone, the vice-chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state, has called for collaboration between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the management of tertiary institutions in the country.

Esimone said sustained collaboration between TETFund and the management of tertiary institutions would ensure that the infrastructural development currently ongoing in the education sector is not truncated.

Esimone, who spoke on the sidelines during the 52nd convocation lecture of the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Enugu, dispelled the rumours that TETFUND programmes did not have the buy-ins of the management of the institutions where the projects are being embarked on.

He stated that TETFUND and the management of the institutions are always in agreement, adding that approvals are sought before the projects are executed.

“In all fairness, as the chief executive of a university for about five years, I will say categorically that it is not true because all the projects TETFUND execute in our universities, they consult the management and get our buy-ins and execute according to what is planned,” the vice-chancellor said.

Esimone said he is satisfied with various programmes being executed by TETFUND, including training, seminars, and others.

He noted that the tertiary institutions apply for approval in principle for all the programmes, adding that all TETFUND projects get the approval of the tertiary institutions involved before implementation.

He commended Sunday Echono, the executive secretary of TETFUND, for his commitment to growing infrastructure in various tertiary institutions.
