US commends NAF for ‘significant counter-terrorism efforts’

The United States counter-terrorism bureau has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its “significant contributions” to the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the country. 

Jessica Long, the acting principal deputy coordinator for counter-terrorism at the bureau, commended NAF when she led the US delegation to the high-level meeting in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Kabiru Ali, the deputy director, public relations and information at NAF, Long acknowledged the recent successes of the Nigerian military in disrupting terrorist networks.

She also praised their adoption of innovative tactics that have been effective in neutralising insurgent threats.

“These efforts have not only helped secure strategic regions within Nigeria but have also contributed to the overall stability of the area,” Long said.

Long restated the continuous support of the US for NAF’s counter-terrorism initiatives and the need for international collaboration in addressing security threats.

She also noted that it is important to advance purposeful lethality through precision-driven operations to ensure that NAF’s efforts remain effective and impactful.

Ibikunle Daramola, chief of civil-military relations, received the delegation and reaffirmed NAF’s unwavering resolve to ensure national security while protecting civilians during military operations.

He also called for increased cooperation in areas like specialised training and technology transfer to further strengthen Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capabilities.
