US President Donald Trump says he has reached a deal with Claudia Sheinbaum, his Mexican counterpart, to halt the proposed tariffs.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said the deal was reached in a conversation he had with Sheinbaum on Monday.
The US president had imposed a 25 percent duty on all imports from Mexico and most goods from Canada, and a 10 percent tariff on imported Chinese goods.
According to the Trump administration, the tariffs are meant to curb the inflow of drugs and undocumented immigrants into the US.

Trump said Sheinbaum agreed to immediately supply 10,000 soldiers to the border separating Mexico and the US to make plans effective.
“These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country,” the US president said.
“We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one-month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.

“I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two Countries.”
Trump said he had also spoken with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau but did not specify if a deal was in the talks.
The US president is set to have another conversation with Trudeau.
There was no mention of China.
