The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom, will host the final match of the 2021/22 Confederation Cup.

In a statement on Wednesday, the continental football governing body said the final is billed for May 20 — with the kick-off time yet to be announced.

“CAF has today announced that Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, will host the 2021/22 TotalEnergies Confederation Cup final on Friday, 20 May 2022,” the statement read.

“CAF will confirm the kick-off time in due course.

“This is the first intercontinental major cup final to be hosted in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom State – the home of Nigeria’s Premier League side Akwa United.”

The competition is currently in the semi-final stage, with TP Mazembe of DR Congo securing a goal advantage over Morrocco’s RS Berkane in the first leg, while Orlando Pirates earned a vital 2-0 victory away at Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli.

The second leg of the semi-finals will be played on May 15.

Nigeria representatives in the competition — Enyimba, Rivers United, and Bayelsa United — all crashed out in the play-off stages.
