Vandals damage electricity transmission line in Abuja — fifth time in one month

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the Shiroro-Katampe transmission line in the federal capital territory (FCT)  has been vandalised.

In a statement on Sunday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokesperson, said the incident was the fifth between February and March this year.

Mbah said towers along the transmission line have been vandalised while the conductors were stolen.

He said arrangements have been made to mobilise for conductor replacement, pending the completion of security operations at the site.

“The second line remains fully operational, transmitting at full capacity to Abuja, in conjunction with the Gwagwalada line serving the Kukwaba-Apo axis,” the statement reads.

“Its wheeling capacity to serve Abuja and environs would be enhanced by the Lokoja – Gwagwalada transmission line.

While describing the act as sabotage, TCN urged security agencies and host communities to collaborate in apprehending the perpetrators as well as protect the nation’s transmission infrastructure.
