Manchester United and Arsenal continued their underwhelming start to the season on Monday night, playing out a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford.

After  making big-money signings in the summer, the two great rivals and former giants of English football were dire and average.

Scott McTominay scored for Man United while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a gift-wrapped equaliser for Arsenal.

The draw means Manchester United, who started the night in 11th place — their lowest since 1989 — preserved their record of not losing to Arsenal at home since 2006.

It, however, confirmed their worst start to a season and lowest point haul after seven games since the 1989/1990 season.

Paul Pogba made his 100th Premier League appearance for Man United while Arsenal youngster, Bukayo Saka, became the youngest player to start a Man United-Arsenal tie on a rainy night tie at Old Trafford.

In a game that had no shot on target for over half an hour, Manchester United took the lead on the stroke of halftime, and it was a goal made on the counter.

Daniel James led the counter attack, found Marcus Rashford, who picked out McTominay and the Scottish midfielder blasted into the top corner from just outside the area for a 1-0 lead at the interval.

It was McTominay’s first goal of the season and first at Old Trafford since he broke into the first team in 2017, making his debut coincidentally against Arsenal.

Arsenal have not won a game in which they went behind against United since 1977 but were gifted a VAR-awarded equalizer by United youngster, Axel Tuanzebe on 59 minutes.

Filling in for injured Luke Shaw at left back, the defender’s wayward pass gifted the ball to Saka who squared for  Aubameyang to dispatch his 7th EPL goal of the season.

Rashford almost won the game for the Red Devils in the 90th minute via a well-taken free kick destined for the top corner but Arsenal keeper palmed away the Englishman’s effort.

The draw leaves Manchester United in 10th place with nine points from seven games, while Arsenal have 12 points in as many games and jump to 4th on the EPL table.
