The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says 12 vessels are waiting to berth at Lagos ports.

According to NAN on Monday, NPA, in its daily shipping schedule, said three of the vessels will berth with general cargo, consisting of different goods.

The port authority added that the 12 vessels will berth at the Apapa bulk terminal, ENL consortium, and Greenview Development Nigeria Ltd. terminals in Lagos.

NPA said two of the vessels will berth with petrol, while the remaining seven vessels will berth with bulk gas, diesel, maize, bulk gypsum, bulk wheat, bulk sugar, and containers.

“Another five vessels are waiting to berth at Lagos Ports with aviation fuel, bulk urea and containers,” NPA said.

The vessels with petrol reached the ports at a period when the country is experiencing petrol scarcity.

Since May, long queues have resurfaced in petrol stations due to the scarcity of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

As the country continues to struggle with petrol scarcity, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited increased the price of petrol to N855 per litre across its retail outlets on September 3, while other retailers are selling above N900.

Also, the port authority is planning to rehabilitate the Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports in Lagos.

On April 17, NPA said a $700 million loan had been secured for the rehabilitation.
