Victor Moses, Diouf strikes secure Stoke win

Victor Moses was the hero as Stoke City beat Everton 2-0 to move past the 40 point safety threshold in the Barclays Premier League.

Everton’s poor season suffered a new low when they allowed Moses to score with a long-range header at the Britannia with Mame Diouf adding a late second to leave Roberto Martinez still only six points above the relegation zone.

Leaders Chelsea remain five points clear at the top of the log as they beat West Ham 1-0 at Upton Park.

After winning the League Cup final on Sunday against Tottenham, the Blues were in confident mood and it was Eden Hazard who scored the only goal of the game.

Their main rivals for the title, Manchester City also won as they defeated Leicester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Spanish star David Silva scored in first half added time – his tenth goal of the season – and James Milner made sure of the points with a late strike.

At St James’ Park, Manchester United were handed a late win over Newcastle as the game looked to be ending for a draw.

In the end a horrible mix up from Mehdi Abeid led to Tim Krul gifting a clearance to Ashley Young who fired in the winner one minute from time.

Arsenal kept their hold of third spot as strikes from Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez helped them to a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

Charlie Austin pulled one back for the basement battlers, who now sit 18th on the log.

Liverpool were also winners on the night as they beat Burnley 2-0. Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge both scored as the Reds remain two points behind fourth place United.

And Tottenham, who sit seventh, beat Swansea City 3-2 in north London.

Nacer Chadli volleyed Spurs ahead after seven minutes as they looked to banish any signs of League Cup final hangover.

The game was then halted for some minutes when Bafetimbi Gomis collapsed on the pitch before he was stretchered off.

Swansea found themselves level when play resumed as Ki Sung Yeung fired home from a narrow angle after Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick had hit the post.

Ryan Mason then thundered a Christian Eriksen pass beyond Lukasz Fabianski to hand Tottenham the lead.

And Andros Townsend finished the scoring for the hosts as he sped into the penalty to latch home and hand Spurs a two-goal cushion.

A late Gylfi Sigurdsson strike was not enough as Spurs claimed all three points.
