Loyalists of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and members of One Nigeria Group locked horns at the Abuja federal high court on Wednesday.
The two groups came face-to-face during their respective demonstrations at the resumed trial of the IPOB leader for treasonable felony and terrorism.
While Kanu’s loyalists protested against the restriction of the IPOB leader’s supporters and lawyers from entering the court, members of the pro-Nigeria movement made a case for the country’s unity and expressed anti-IPOB sentiments.
Speaking with reporters, Muhammed Hassan, president of One Nigeria Group, said the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable.
“We are saying no to insurgency, Boko Haram, IPOB attacks,” Hassan said.
“No to sit-at-home, it is killing our brothers in the south-east. They are sitting at home against their will in fear of IPOB attacks.”
Meanwhile, one of Kanu’s loyalists lamented the manner in which his trial is being handled.
“This is unfair and all I am asking, as a messenger of truth, is justice in this trial process if it must go on, if not, this thing will produce an already known outcome,” he said.
The trial has since been adjourned till January 19.
