Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), says Nigeria has made an advance payment of its annual contributions.
Okonjo-Iweala spoke on the development when she visited the ministry of finance in Abuja on Tuesday.
She thanked Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, for the role Nigeria played in clearing its arrears with the WTO and paying ahead.
The WTO DG said: “I want to end with a very big thank you on something that you did, honorable minister, and that is, you cleared Nigeria’s arrears to the World Trade Organisation. I want to thank you, thank Mr. president, the chief of staff for focusing on this.

“This really made us proud, because you know, to field a candidate when you have arrears… I want to share with you, they not only cleared the arrears for 2019, they’ve paid for 2020, 2021 and now we are a little bit ahead because we have advance some money for 2022.”
