Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, says the state has not recorded any case of COVID since the outbreak of the virus in Nigeria. 

The governor said this on Tuesday in Lokoja, the Kogi capital, during a meeting with traditional rulers and council chairpersons from the 21 LGAs in the state.

On different occasions, Bello has maintained that the state has not recorded cases.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the governor said some states are experiencing COVID, adding that such was not the case with Kogi.

“We know that some states experienced COVID-19 and some other dreaded diseases. Thank God here in Kogi state, we never had one single case of COVID19 and we will still not have it,” he said.

Bello also announced that “except in hospitals and related institutions”, the use of face masks in public is banned, adding that Kogi is not a place where there is COVID.

“Our land is clean and cleansed of all forms of dreaded diseases. We don’t have them here,” he said.

However, checks by TheCable on the website of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed that Kogi state has so far recorded five cases of COVID-19 with zero deaths.

Nigeria has so far confirmed a total of 261,473 confirmed cases of the virus with Kogi recording the lowest number of cases.

Meanwhile, during the first wave of the virus, the NCDC and the Kogi government had been at loggerheads over the conduct of COVID tests in the state.
