A video in which a woman appeared to be voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in multiple ballot papers during the local government (LG) and local council development area (LCDA) elections in Lagos state on Saturday has appeared on the public space.
In the 30-second footage that has appeared on social media, the woman was seen thumbprinting more than eight ballot papers with several ballot papers with the woman.
In the ballot papers seen in the video, the thumbprint mark was for the APC as evident in the broom logo of the party.
In the footage, the woman’s face was not shown as the camera angle only captured her head and the voting booth from an aerial view.

The action of the woman in the video appears to be over-voting which is against the provision of section 53 of the Electoral Act 2010.
Section 53 of the Electoral Act 2010 states that “No voter shall vote for more than one candidate or record more than one vote in favour of any candidate at any one election.”
Section 122 (1f) stipulates that a person that engages in over-voting is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of N500,000 or 12 months imprisonment or both.

TheCable had reported that the election conducted in 57 LGAs and local council development areas on Saturday was characterised by voter apathy.
Some residents said they are not aware of the election, while some associated their apathy to their disappointment in some of their elected officials.
