Laolu Akande, a former spokesperson of Yemi Osinbajo, former vice-president, says none of his political comments after May 29, should be ascribed to his former principal.

The former journalist was reacting to critics of his statement, where he said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has lost the trust of citizens, by failing to electronically transmit the results of the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview on Friday, Akande described the electoral empire as “damaged goods” for failing to fulfil its promise.

His comment soon received clapbacks, particularly from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), many of whom have ascribed his statements to Osinbajo.

Responding to critics on Saturday, Akande said he no longer speaks for the former vice-president.

I am aware some people think my comments since May 29 were on behalf of my former boss, VP Osinbajo who I worked with from 2015-2023 as media aide. It is now important to say I now only speak for myself & those views I have shared  & will share going forward are entirely mine,” he wrote on his X page.

There was tension in the party, especially between loyalists of Osinbajo and President Bola Tinubu, when the former vice-president declared his bid to contest against Tinubu at the APC presidential primary.
