I wanted Timi Dakolo to attend Ogoni cleanup, says minister

Amina Mohammed, minister for environment, has expressed regrets over the refusal of Timi Dakolo, Nigerian R &B musician, to accept the invitation to perform at the Ogoni cleanup launch in Rivers state.

The landmark event occurred last Thursday, with top government functionaries, representatives of oil firms and officials of the United Nations in attendance.

Mohammed thanked all those who graced the occasion, but lamented the absence of the superstar.

“A big thank you to all who contributed to the success of Ogoni cleanup launch. I only wish that Timi Dakolo accepted our invitation to perform,” she wrote on Twitter.

The message did not go down well with fans of the Great Nation crooner who asked if his presence was more important than the president’s.

“Wrong moves ma’am, @timidakolo s refusal isn’t as significant as Mr President’s  absence. #GetYourPriorityRightMadam,” a fan commented on Twitter.

“Just the way you feel the absence of Timi Dakolo, the same way the people felt the absent of Mr President,” another wrote.

“Buhari also declined to attend. Timi is a private citizen. Wonder what you want to achieve by telling us this.”

Dakolo hit limelight after he won the first season of the Nigerian Idol in 2007.
