Isaac Adewole, minister of health, has described hand washing as a means of ensuring effective hygiene.
Speaking at an event organised by Reckitt Benckiser (RB), producers of Dettol, the minister said hand washing with soap is more effective than any single vaccine.
The event, organised in Abuja, was to mark the 2018 global hand washing day.
Adewole also commended the organisation for its efforts in promoting good hygiene practices in Nigeria.

Represented by Fubara Chuku, national coordinator, food safety and quality programme at the ministry, he said: “Hand washing with soap can prevent transmission of variety of pathogens as it may be more effective than any single vaccine or hygiene behavior.
“I would like to express my delight to Reckitt Benckiser for organising this celebration of global handwashing day. This is a demonstration of your commitment to the course of reducing diseases transmission in the country and meeting the target of the SDGs.”
Over 2,000 school children drawn from seven public and private schools in the federal capital territory (FCT) attended in the programme which held at L.E.A Model Primary School, Maitama.
