Nigeria’s Falconets have advanced to the penultimate round of the Costa Rica 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after beating the Central African Republic (CAR) 11-0 on aggregate.

The Falconets refused to hold back their firepower throughout the encounter, crushing their opponent 7-0 in the first leg played a couple of weeks ago in Douala, Cameroon.

They added another four goals to the routing in a one-sided second leg, which took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday.

A brace from Mercy Idoko set the tone for the second leg, accompanied on both sides by goals from Flourish Sebastine and Blessing Okpe.

The superior display ensures that Nigeria faces either Egypt or Congo in the penultimate round — after both teams played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg a few days ago.

Other countries that have so far qualified for the round are Ghana, Ethiopia, and Gabon.

Two teams will represent Africa at next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Costa Rica will host the tournament from August 10 to 28.

The country would have hosted the 2020 edition before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
