The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos says it has not directed incumbent LGA chairpersons seeking re-election to resign ahead of the council poll.
In a statement on Monday, Seye Oladejo, APC spokesperson in Lagos, said the purported directive was fake news intended to mislead the public and party members.
Oladejo clarified that the directive issued was for APC local government party chairmen seeking elective offices to resign, as they cannot be umpires and contestants at the same time.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen, who intend to seek re-election to resign from their offices,” the statement reads.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher.
“The local government party chairmen, who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released.
“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat up the polity.”

The APC spokesperson said the party awaits electoral guidelines from Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), urging members to promote unity and cohesion through various activities.
