We lost 295 officers in 2015, says Lagos police commissioner

Fatai Owoseni, police commissioner in Lagos, hs revealed that about 295 police officers and men died in 2015 under his command.

Owoseni disclosed this while reviewing activities of the command in 2015.

He said some of the men died through different illnesses, while others died from accident related incidents, exchange of gunfire with robbers, among others.

Owoseni paid tributes to the fallen officers and commiserated with their families for the irreparable lose.

He said between December 12 and January 6, about 47 suspected armed robbers and 14 cultists, who had been on the wanted list of the police and SSS for murder cases, were arrested.

He added that two armed robbers were killed during exchange of gunfire with the police, while 16 different ammunition and 24 vehicles were recovered.

Owoseni attributed the success recorded in the fight with criminals to the constant raids of black spots, which led to the arrest of 1,110 suspected hoodlums.

He said 82 of the suspected hoodlums were set free, while 1,028 were charged to court after investigation.

“We had 745 convictions, 155 discharged by court, 128 others awaiting trials,” he said.

“We also had 1,055 motorcycles impounded during the period under review.”

Twenty-five suspects, including armed robbers, impersonator and a man who was arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old boy were paraded during the briefing.
