The police command in Imo has paraded five armed robbery suspects said to be terrorising residents within Owerri west LGA of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, Henry Okoye, police spokesperson in the state, said the suspects were arrested at their hideout at Ama Hausa in Avu Owerri West LGA following an intelligence. 

Okoye gave the names of the suspects as David Christopher (male, 19), Sheriff Abraham (male, 19), Emmanuel Akala (male, 27), Sanusi Umar (male, 20) and Mohammed Ashiru (male, 20).

“Operatives of the command’s tactical team on 16th of June, 2023, arrested five notorious armed robbery suspects,” the statement reads.

“In the course of the investigation, the suspects volunteered statements, confessing that they have masterminded various armed robbery incidents within Owerri west LGA of Imo state.

“After much torture, they took the inquisitive operatives of the command to their hideout in Ama Hausa in Avu Owerri west where they recovered two locally made pistols, rounds of live cartridges, numerous handsets, and other incriminating items.”

Okoye said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of an investigation, adding that officers are putting efforts into arresting other fleeing members of the gang.
