We’ll explore all viable options to attract investors, says sports minister

Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports, says the federal ministry of youth and sports development is committed to rehabilitate, reposition and revamp the various sporting centres for podium performances through public private partnership funding.

Dare made the commitment on Thursday at the occasion of the 2020 defence of the ministry, held by the senate committee on youth and sports, at the national assembly complex in Abuja.

The minister emphatically stated that the ministry, with strong political will, has urgently initiated several processes that are already under consideration with relevant government agencies to actualize the set goals.

When asked to speak on the parlous state of the country’s stadia, the League Management Company and grassroot sport, Dare averred that private funding of sports is very crucial to attain the desired level of attracting investors and engaging potential corporate organisations that would trigger impactful content for sports development.

The minister also disclosed that the ministry will leverage on the adoption of sports centres and athletes through the process of engaging eminent personalities in the country to achieve the drive of revamping the stadia facilities in the country, with positive consequences on empowering athletes and youths for optimal performance in sports.

In his opening remarks, the chairman of senate committee on youth and sports, pledged the commitment of members to assist the ministry actualise it’s mandate and vision for national cohesion and socio-economic empowerment.

The chairman also promised to ensure that the sports ministry’s budget for 2020 receive a positive consideration at the appropriation committee level.
