We’ll immortalise Wigwe’s impactful legacies, says Fubara

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, has promised to immortalise the legacies of Herbert Wigwe, former group chief executive officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc.

On February 10, Wigwe was involved in a chopper crash in the US alongside Chizoba, his wife; and Chizi, his son.

Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), was also aboard the chopper, with all passengers confirmed dead hours later.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Boniface Onyedi, Fubara’s senior special adviser on media, the governor said Wigwe lived an impactful life, affecting society positively.

He said his administration is determined to immortalise him as a worthy son of the state.

“I have come to understand something about life, those that God has favoured, blessed and truly cherish, He does not like them to stay too long on earth because he doesn’t want them to get corrupted,” Fubara said at the night of tributes in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers.

“But the wicked ones, the cruel, that you are praying to die, will stay and they will not die. So, you should understand that what has happened to our brother and his family, is truly painful to everyone.”

Fubara also urged residents to uphold the impact endeavours that Wigwe devoted his time to.

In a programme obtained by TheCable, the burial ceremony of the Wigwes will begin with a celebration of the professional legacy of the former GCEO of Access Holdings at the Eko Hotel in Lagos on March 4, and will end with an outing service at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers, on March 10.

The lives of Chizi and Chizoba will be celebrated in separate ceremonies scheduled for March 5 at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, before a night of tributes a day later at the same venue.
