We are doing well, says Tinubu as he casts his ballot

Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says his party is doing well in the ongoing local government election.

Addressing reporters after voting at Alausa in Ikeja, Tinubu said his party has overcome the crisis that broke out after the primary election.

He said conflict resolution is part of democracy, adding that “nobody abrogated anybody’s right”.

“The exercise is going smoothly. Thanks to the people of Lagos state. The streets are empty. The people respect the governor and the call of the party for them to turn out,” he said.

“Look at the turnout in a short period of time. We have peace at various local governments. I have been monitoring other local governments. We are doing well.”

Asked to comment on the efforts made to resolve the crisis in the party, Tinubu said: “Is it not politics? You must have twists and turns… if you are a popular party, there’s no way you will not face the turbulence of democracy.

“When we have 57 local governments and local council development areas, the problem is that you have many people willing to use your party’s platform but you can only have one chairman, one councillor in a ward and you have many people fighting for slots.

“Considering that conflict resolution is the hallmark of democracy, you have to find a way to resolve all conflicts, and we have done so. That is why we have peace today. When you are in politics, you should expect that level of anxiety.”
